Las Salinas del Carmen Museum in Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) presents a redefined role

Las Salinas del Carmen Museum, located in the municipality of Antigua, now presents an idealized recreation of the place where the project of these salt pans was developed: The house of Mr Manuel Vázquez Cabrera in 1910.

Proasur has redefined the role of this museum, facing its previous general message about “the salt in the world” of the formerly known “Museum of Salt”.

The re-named “Salinas del Carmen Museum” shows a new identity that highlights unique and local aspects of El Carmen salt pans.

These actions, together with the Museum Shop new image and other practices to protect El Carmen adjacent salt pans, take visitors into the heart of the island.

Proasur has outlined this new look and mission, aiming at safeguarding the heritage and cultural identity of Fuerteventura.

This new focus, based on Proasur main goals in three of the most important Touristic Centres in Fuerteventura, outlined five main lines of action:

1. Creation of new contents.

2. New museography implementation.

3. Design of redefined visit routes.

4. Creative design of the new graphic image.

5. Development of a new "mise-en-scene"
